About Desert Oasis Recovery

Tami Pacheco, our Executive Director and Founder of the program, is a long time resident of Albquerque, New Mexico. Tami attended the University of New Mexico where she double majored in psychology and sociology. As a recovering alcoholic herself, Tami understands just how damaging the effects of drug addiction and alcoholism are to our very souls. "I believe that our society teaches us to put aside our feelings from the time we enter this world. We are taught not to feel and are often are not given the appropriate tools to deal with damaging experiences. As a result we learn to mask our pain, our anger and all other socially unacceptable feelings. I have learned that with acknowledgment of our experiences and acceptance of them, we can learn new life skills to promote the best chance of better living".

Desert Oasis's Philosophy incorporates many tried and true therapies along with cutting edge experiential therapies. Desert Oasis is a twelve-step based model and believes that along with our therapies and healing practices it is imperative to become part of the twelve step group that matches the addiction. Our goal is to help our clients gradually move from unhealthy patterned reactions to present-based responses. To achieve this goal we employ the healing resources of the community combined with the specificity and sensitivity of individualized treatment in private residential setting. We are, your home away from home.

Desert Oasis has found from experience that being in a quiet residential home is far more effective than attending the larger hospital enviroment. Because of that, Desert Oasis has chosen to have no more than five clients at each home, and the level of direct care is far greater than if the client goes through treatment with 30 or 40 clients.

Typically, our clients enter our program for a period of four to twelve weeks. The program includes intensive individual and group therapy. Desert Oasis is a twelve step modality.

After successful completion of the residential program, a client may extend their stay into Sober Living. Sober Living allows the client to have one foot in the real world, while still experiencing the benefits of a safe enviroment. Desert Oasis has found that those clients that choose Sober Living have a much higher ratio of staying sober and have an easier time transitioning back into their normal lives.
